I am Cinnamon

Choreographer: Sbonakaliso Ndaba

Spier Summer Arts Festival, The Station: 29 February to 1 March 2008
   Artscape Theatre, Cape Town: 12 - 15 June 2008

Featuring Bloemfontein's Henk Opperman, winner of kykNET's Dans Dans Dans, and Cape Town's Yarisha Singh, who won third place in the competition, with trainees from Jazzart's Young Adult Training and Job Creation Programme, Vadhini Indian Arts Academy, Cafda (Cape Flats Development Association), Capa (Cape Academy of Performing Arts) and La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre.

A creation by veteran dance makers John Linden, Ina Wichterich-Mogane, Ananda Fuchs and Sbonakaliso Ndaba, led by the innovative Alfred Hinkel, I Am Cinnamon is an exploration of ancient and contemporary dance rituals. This production replaced the annual Danscape season, in which local dancers from around Cape Town were able to showcase their talent. Some of the regular participants were given the opportunity instead to perform in a new work alongside the Jazzart trainees and company dancers.
