Artscape, Cape Town: 1999-2011

An annual event that showcased budding young South African dancers and raised funds to support dance training and development. Youth groups performed with the Jazzart trainees at this event including Cafda (Cape Flats Development Association); Dance for All; Namjive; the David Poole Trust Youth Training Programme; Eoan Group; Brigitte Reeve Dance Centre; Wilvan School of Dance; Wynberg Senior Secondary; Rhythm Works; La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre; Remix Dance Project; Vadhini Indian Arts Academy; Cape Youth Dance Company; Zama School of Dance; Arc en Ciel Dance Company (Mauritius); Rhythm Nation; Western Cape Education Department Focus Schools; Astra School for the Physically Disabled; Phenduka Dance Theatre (Durban) and The Dance Factory (Johannesburg).

In 2012 the event evolved and was rebranded as Azishe!, the Jazzart Dance Theatre festival.  Translated from isiZulu “azishe” means “let it burn”; the festival name is inspired by the energy, passion hunger to succeed that its young participants have brought to the Danscape festival stage since 1999.   Azishe! evolved into a platform for emerging and established dance groups, schools and companies to develop their skills and showcase their talent
